Lake Poinsett Sanitary District

The mission of the Lake Poinsett Sanitary District is to protect public health, the environment and water quality, and support community well‑being by consistently providing reliable, efficient, and sustainable wastewater services to the Lake Poinsett community.

Codified Laws

Sanitary districts are governed by South Dakota Codified Law Chapter 34A-5. While it is possible for sanitary districts to adopt their own by-laws, doing so is uncommon and most sanitary districts do not.

SD DANR

The Board of Water and Natural Resources through the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) administers the loan and potential grant funds that allow the LPSD to expand and update the system.

Septic Tank Requirements

​Septic tank requirements are governed by Chapter 74:53:01 and need to be factory made and professionally installed by a certified installer. There is a permit through the LPSD required for any work done on any septic system within the District. The permit ensures compliance with state rules and regulations.

State Revolving Fund

The Lake Poinsett Sanitary District receives funding from the South Dakota Sate Revolving Fund in the form of grants and loans. The loans are commonly referred to as SRF loans and are regulated under Chapter 74:05:08.
